Basketball Recap: Blake Fortunato's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Deposit-Hancock over Morris Central

After flying high against Afton last Friday, Deposit-Hancock came back down to earth. Deposit-Hancock fell 91-84 to the Morris Central Mustangs on Monday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (82), Deposit-Hancock still had to take the loss.

Deposit-Hancock lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Blake Fortunato, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 13 rebounds. The matchup was Fortunato's 13th in a row with at least ten points. Micah Simmons was another key player, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 15 boards.

Even though they lost, Deposit-Hancock smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 18 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Deposit-Hancock's loss dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Morris Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.

Deposit-Hancock is taking a road trip to face off against Delaware Academy at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Morris Central has already played their next matchup (against Edmeston Central), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
