Palatine took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Conant, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Pirates had just enough and edged out the Cougars 7-6 on Monday. The game was the first time the Pirates have beaten the Cougars on their field since May 12, 2021.

Toby Peterson was a standout: he scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Joe Riley, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Palatine is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Conant, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-5-1.
