Baseball Game Preview: Chatham Panthers vs. Coxsackie-Athens Riverhawks

Chatham is on a six-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Coxsackie-Athens is on a five-game streak of away wins (also dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Panthers will challenge the Riverhawks at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Chatham's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Greenwich 13-0. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Witches recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Hunter Kelly was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sean Harrington, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Coxsackie-Athens made easy work of Watervliet on Friday and carried off a 16-2 win. Fans of the Riverhawks have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Brendan Woytowich was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Woytowich was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Coxsackie-Athens got a massive performance out of Nico Galante, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. Andrew Sager was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Chatham skirted past Coxsackie-Athens 6-5 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Riverhawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
