Basketball Game Preview: Fruita Monument Wildcats vs. Durango Demons

Fruita Monument is 8-2 against Durango since January of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Fruita Monument Wildcats will face off against the Durango Demons at 7:00 p.m. Fruita Monument is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

On Tuesday, Fruita Monument needed a bit of extra time to put away Montrose. They skirted past the Red Hawks 47-45.

Jhett Wells was his usual excellent self, putting up 25 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Jimmy Hawkins was another key player, posting four points.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Durango's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 46-38 to Montrose.

Fruita Monument is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.4 points per game. As for Durango, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 11-5.

Fruita Monument strolled past Durango in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a score of 43-25. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fruita Monument since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
