Softball Game Preview: Newton Falls Tigers vs. Garfield G-Men

The Newton Falls Tigers will venture away from home to take on the Garfield G-Men at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Newton Falls is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

Newton Falls' pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against East as they made off with a 13-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.

The team relied heavily on Kirra Howard, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Madison Davis also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.

Newton Falls was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Garfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of LaBrae.

Garfield's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Newton Falls, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6-1.

Newton Falls might still be hurting after the 13-2 defeat they got from Garfield in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
