Softball Recap: Trico Makes It 18 in a Row at Home

Trico posted their closest win since May 13, 2024 on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Vienna Eagles 5-4. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 15-12 on Tuesday.

Zoe Bennett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on three hits.

At the plate, Trico got a big performance out of Hayleigh Franklin, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Aubrey Cotter also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Trico's victory was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Vienna, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-13.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Trico will square off against New Athens at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Pioneers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Yellow Jackets have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Vienna, they will take on Herrin at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will need to watch out since the Tigers have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.
