Basketball Recap: Powers Catholic Skates Past Utica with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Powers Catholic). They claimed a resounding 74-15 win over the Utica Chieftains. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 49-12.

It was another big night for Kendyl Smith, who went 13 of 17 en route to 24 points along with five assists and five steals. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 16.5 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Ringwelski, who posted ten points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals.

Smith wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Powers Catholic was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Powers Catholic pushed their record up to 4-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 31.4 points. As for Utica, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.

Powers Catholic will head out to take on Frankenmuth at 2:30 p.m. on December 27th. As for Utica, they will welcome Port Huron at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
