Baseball Preview: Mills Vikings vs. South San Francisco Warriors
The Mills Vikings will venture away from home to take on the South San Francisco Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mills is looking for their season's first win.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Mills and Hillsdale meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. Mills fell just short of Hillsdale by a score of 3-2.
Nate Lafon was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Mills saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joshua Huei, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Jayden Chan also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
Meanwhile, South San Francisco got the win against Galileo on Saturday by a conclusive 16-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Warriors.
Giovanni Bernal and Adam Keith did most of the damage at the plate: Bernal scored three runs while going 2-for-4, while Keith scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs Bernal has posted since back in March of 2024. Jayden Tejada was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
South San Francisco always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Galileo only posted an OBP of .286.
South San Francisco now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Mills, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.
