Preview: Hampton County Hurricanes vs. Barnwell Warhorses
Hampton County has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against The Barnwell Warhorses at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hampton County will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.
Hampton County can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent game two weeks ago. They didn't even let Woodland onto the board and left with a 64-0 win. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Hampton County had established a 57 point advantage.
It was another big night for Zion Dobson, who rushed for 248 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 14.6 yards per carry, and also threw for 78 yards and a touchdown. Dobson hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for nine straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Xaviar Garvin, who rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Meanwhile, Barnwell had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They managed a 31-27 victory over Woodland.
Cameron Austin went supernova for Barnwell, rushing for 145 yards and three touchdowns, while also throwing for 174 yards and a touchdown. Austin hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for three straight games. Jaquan Peeples also helped out with an impressive 80 receiving yards.
Hampton County's victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Barnwell, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
Hampton County was taken down by Barnwell 41-13 in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Hampton County, Tyler Smith (who rushed for 353 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 11.0 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time.
