Baseball Game Preview: West Carteret Patriots vs. Swansboro Pirates

For the second straight game, West Carteret will face off against Swansboro. The Patriots will challenge the Pirates at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. West Carteret is on a four-game streak of home wins, Swansboro a six-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.

West Carteret came out on top against Swansboro on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. The Patriots blew past the Pirates 7-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Patriots have posted against the Pirates since May 10, 2022.

Cameron Pavy made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Riley Jones was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of West Carteret's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-8 when he doesn't). Lincoln Strump was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

West Carteret has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Swansboro, their loss dropped their record down to 12-7.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. West Carteret has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Swansboro struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.4 strikeouts.
