Football Recap: Smyrna Wins High-Profile Contest Against Cape Henlopen + How To Watch

Smyrna faced Cape Henlopen in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Eagles walked away with a 42-34 victory over the Vikings. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Smyrna's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Phoenix Henriquez led the charge by picking up 116 receiving yards and three scores. Henriquez is becoming a predictor of the Eagles' success: when he posts at least 100 receiving yards the team is 2-1 (and 0-3 when he doesn't). Kahmaj Kearney also helped with two touchdowns in total.

Despite the loss, Cape Henlopen still got an impressive performance from Jameson Tingle, who threw for 196 yards and four TDs, and also rushed for 136 yards and one score while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. The Vikings' leading receiver Amari Jackson was Tingle's top target yet again, picking up 49 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Smyrna moved to 2-4 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Cape Henlopen, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-3.
