Volleyball Recap: Suzi Valbuena Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Old Plank Christian Academy

St. Joseph Academy had to skate by with only a one-set margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the three-set drubbing they dealt Old Plank Christian Academy on Friday. The Flashes put the hurt on the Defenders with a sharp 3-0 win. While the Flashes didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-11, 25-14.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Joseph Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Suzi Valbuena, who had four aces and three digs. With that strong performance, Valbuena is now averaging an impressive 12.6 assists per game. Addy Mira was another key player, getting ten digs and four aces.

They weren't the only good server: St. Joseph Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 21 aces. They are 5-2 when they serve at least ten aces.

St. Joseph Academy picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 6-4. As for Old Plank Christian Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Joseph Academy will welcome Palatka at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Old Plank Christian Academy, they will face off against Covenant School of Jacksonville at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
