Softball Recap: Concord Comes Up Short

Concord lost against Pittsburg back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Concord fell 7-4 to Pittsburg. The Bears just can't catch a break and have now endured six losses in a row.

Aislynn Newlin was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Shay Caban made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024.

Concord's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Pittsburg, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.

Concord and Pittsburg could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Concord will challenge Pinole Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday down 418 places (780 vs. 362). Meanwhile, Pittsburg (ranked 839th) will meet San Marin (ranked 276th) at 4:00 p.m. on April 4.
