Baseball Recap: Montebello Finds Home Field Redemption Against San Gabriel

There's no place like home for Montebello, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. Everything went their way against the San Gabriel Matadors on Monday as the Montebello Oilers made off with a 28-0 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Oilers considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Ben Richards made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-1. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two).

In other pitching news, Isaac Solorzano looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.

Back at the plate, Aaron Vallejo was a standout: he went a perfect 5-for-5 with five runs, seven RBI, and two stolen bases. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (three). Another player making a difference was Isaiah Cervantes, who scored five runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all six of his plate appearances.

Montebello always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .771. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as San Gabriel only posted an OBP of .071.

The win snapped Montebello's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 2-3 record. As for San Gabriel, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

Montebello didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 11-0 victory against Mark Keppel on the 6th. As for San Gabriel, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 15-1 loss against Schurr on the 5th.
