Softball Recap: Glastonbury Gets the Win

Glastonbury took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Middletown, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Guardians had just enough and edged out the Blue Dragons 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Guardians have posted since April 17, 2024.

Lyla Elliott spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Glastonbury let Sylvia Lewis and Emily Thompson run wild. Lewis went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Thompson went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one double. That double was Thompson's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Schlenger, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Glastonbury kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.

Glastonbury's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-5. As for Middletown, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Looking ahead, Glastonbury will challenge Southington at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Guardians' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Knights have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season. As for Middletown, they will take on Bristol Central at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
