Preview: Greeley West Spartans vs. Monarch Coyotes
The Greeley West Spartans will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Monarch Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Thursday, Greeley West had to suffer through a rough 48-6 loss at the hands of Windsor. Greeley West was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 27-0.
Meanwhile, Monarch's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 48-31 to Longmont. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Even though the team lost, they still came through with several impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Riley Montemayor, who threw for 283 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Owen Mellish was another key contributor, picking up 163 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Greeley West's defeat was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-0 Thomas Jefferson and 5-2 Northridge (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 65.2% over those games). As for Monarch, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Greeley West might still be hurting after the 21-0 loss they got from Monarch in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Will Greeley West have more luck at home instead of on the road?
