Basketball Recap: Elk Grove Wins Going Away Against Pleasant Grove

Elk Grove won the last time they faced Pleasant Grove and things went their way on Friday too. The Elk Grove Thundering Herd enjoyed a cozy 68-51 victory over the Pleasant Grove Eagles. The Thundering Herd pushed the score to 51-31 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles cut but never quite recovered from.

Danny Dennaoui was his usual excellent self, going 7 for 11 en route to 18 points and eight boards. Another player making a difference was Alphonso Moore Jr., who posted six points and ten rebounds.

Elk Grove smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 17 consecutive contests.

Despite the defeat, Pleasant Grove saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ethan Nguyen earned 12 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Alvin Mitchell, who scored seven points.

Elk Grove's record now sits at 14-4. As for Pleasant Grove, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.

Elk Grove didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 62-59 loss against Ygnacio Valley on the 20th. As for Pleasant Grove, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 65-62 defeat against Laguna Creek on the 22nd.
