Softball Recap: St. Johns Comes Up Short

St. Johns extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 20 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-9 in the process. They lost 15-0 to the Eaton Rapids Greyhounds. The match marked the first time this year in which the Redwings were not able to get on the board.

As for Eaton Rapids, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-3. Considering they have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Eaton Rapids' part, Kalli Ordiway made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Ordiway has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mallory Smith, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Abi Pratt was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Coming up, St. Johns is taking a road trip to face off against Fowlerville at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Eaton Rapids, they will be playing at home against Lansing Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Greyhounds' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season.
