Basketball Recap: Calvary Saints vs. Nokomis Redskins
There's no place like home for the Calvary Saints, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Thursday. They took down Nokomis 67-53 on Friday. For Calvary, this counts as revenge for the 55-51 loss the Redskins walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2023.
Calvary found their leader in underclassman Luke Blackford, who scored 34 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Blackford has scored at least a third of Calvary's points. Another player making a difference was Connor Brown, who scored 14 points along with seven assists and six steals.
Calvary pushed their record up to 18-8 with that win, which was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.3 points per game. As for Nokomis, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-15.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calvary will take on the Hilltoppers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mt. Pulaski will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 582nd, while the Saints are ranked 222nd). As for Nokomis, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Hiltoppers at 6:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Hopefully Hillsboro focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday.
