Volleyball Recap: Carrollton Comes Up Short

Carrollton was the 2-1 winner over Columbus when they last played one another back in August of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Trojans fell just short of the Blue Devils by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday. While the Trojans didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Blue Devils 25-19 in the first set.

The 2-1 doesn't really show just how close this match was: all the sets Carrollton lost were decided by three points or less. The match finished with set scores of 19-25, 26-24, 15-12.

Cami Kabaczy paced Carrollton's offense, picking up 11 kills. Kabaczy got some help from Olivia Sims and her 17 assists. Sims also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Avani Poolman, each putting up two.

Columbus found their leader in sophomore Emma Cicora, who had 11 digs and one block. Cicora is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 19 or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Carrollton's loss dropped their record down to 15-18. As for Columbus, they pushed their record up to 19-18 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Coincidentally, Carrollton and Columbus will both be playing Heritage the next time they take the court. The Trojans will host the Hawks at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Blue Devils will play them later in the day, at 6:00 p.m.
