Basketball Game Preview: Malakoff Tigers vs. Grand Saline Indians

The Malakoff Tigers will take on the Grand Saline Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Malakoff has three straight victories, Grand Saline has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

On Tuesday, Malakoff strolled past Mineola with points to spare, taking the game 51-34. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 115th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 456th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Grand Saline came up short against Edgewood on Tuesday and fell 43-35.

Malakoff has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 17 of their last 19 games, which provided a nice bump to their 24-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.3 points per game. As for Grand Saline, their loss dropped their record down to 14-14.

Everything came up roses for Malakoff against Grand Saline in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 55-16 win. Will Malakoff repeat their success, or does Grand Saline have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
