Football Recap: Lincoln Southwest Takes a Loss

If Lincoln Southwest was riding high fresh off their 35-13 takedown of Lincoln Northeast last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Silver Hawks were dealt a 44-7 loss at the hands of the Bellevue West Thunderbirds on Friday. The Silver Hawks lost against the Thunderbirds in their previous head to head back in October of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 28-14 score last time.

When it comes to explaining why Lincoln Southwest lost, don't look at Thatcher Shelton. Despite the final result, he rushed for 73 yards and one TD on only six carries.

Bellevue West's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Will Anderson, who threw for 282 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.3 yards per attempt. Anderson is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Demarkus Robinson, who rushed for 112 yards and one score on only eight carries.

Lincoln Southwest's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 2-5. As for Bellevue West, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season.

Lincoln Southwest will venture away from home to challenge Buena Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Silver Hawks are facing the Bison at the right time seeing as the Bison are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Bellevue West, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Omaha North at 7:00 p.m. The Thunderbirds will need to watch out since the Vikings have now posted at least 31 points in their last three matchups.
