Softball Game Preview: Oak Glen Golden Bears vs. Williamstown Yellowjackets

The Oak Glen Golden Bears will head out to square off against the Williamstown Yellowjackets at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Oak Glen has four straight victories, Williamstown has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Oak Glen had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Edison on Friday. The Golden Bears were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the Wildcats. Considering the Golden Bears have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Mattie Carney made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. She also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Riley Bruce was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that she brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Kayla Wright, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Oak Glen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Williamstown's offense. They came up short against Ontario on Friday, falling 10-0.

Oak Glen pushed their record up to 12-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Williamstown, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.
