Volleyball Recap: Licking Valley Comes Up Short

Licking Valley was the 3-2 winner over Watkins Memorial when they last played one another back in September, but their luck changed this time around. The Panthers fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. Panthers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Warriors since Tuesday.

Licking Valley was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Watkins Memorial work for it, especially in the fourth set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 23-25, 21-25, 26-24, 15-7.

Emory Whisner paced Licking Valley's offense, picking up 15 kills. Whisner got some help from Sami Whitehair and her 24 assists. Whisner was also solid from the service line: she led the team with five aces.

Licking Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Watkins Memorial, their record now sits at 7-13.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Licking Valley will host Utica at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Watkins Memorial, they will welcome Whetstone at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Braves will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight.
