Basketball Recap: Pasquotank County Comes Up Short

Pasquotank County lost against First Flight back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Pasquotank County Panthers came up short against the First Flight Nighthawks, falling 62-40. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 408th, while the Nighthawks are ranked 101st).

Despite the loss, Pasquotank County still got an impressive performance from Anylah Bowe, who dropped a triple-double with 18 points, 20 rebounds, and ten blocks. Bowe has been hot for a while, having posted three or more blocks the last 39 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ka'Leigha Person, who went 5-for-11 on her way to 14 points and five steals.

First Flight was led to victory by Maddy Beatson and Sara Basnight. Beatson went 12-for-25 en route to 26 points and seven steals, while Basnight went 9-for-14 to rack up 18 points in addition to seven boards and three blocks. That makes it four consecutive games in which Beatson has scored at least a third of First Flight's points. Mamie Kyger also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Pasquotank County and nudges their season record down to 7-13. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 18-4 Currituck County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 85% over those games). As for First Flight, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-2.

Coming up, Pasquotank County will venture away from home to take on Northeastern at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for First Flight, they will host Currituck County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. First Flight is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.8 points per game this season.
