Softball Recap: Winona Takes a Loss

If Winona was feeling good fresh off their 25-5 takedown of Richland on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wildcats came up short against the Bakersfield Lions on Wednesday, falling 20-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 16-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Winona saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kalyn Stayton, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Winona's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 3-11. As for Bakersfield, the win got them back to even at 9-9.

Winona does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bakersfield, they will take on Mansfield at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. Mansfield has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.04 runs per game on average), something Bakersfield will no doubt try to take advantage of.
