Softball Recap: Grace Davis Spartans vs. Ceres Bulldogs
Grace Davis had lost 15 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 4-14 to make it 16. They came up short against the Ceres Bulldogs, falling 17-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-3 back in March.
As for Ceres, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-7. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 11 games by nine runs or more so far this season.
For Ceres' part, Alizae Cole made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Cole has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run.
In other batting news, Ava Montesdeoca was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Bella Bravo was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Grace Davis and Ceres will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time the Spartans see the field they'll take on Pacheco at 4:00 p.m. on the 28th. As for Ceres, their break will end when they face Beyer at 4:00 p.m. on the 28th.
