Volleyball Recap: Marietta Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Eastern typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Marietta proved too difficult a challenge. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Eagles 3-2. Winning may never get old, but the Tigers sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Marietta got the one that really mattered. The final score came out to 25-22, 19-25, 25-20, 21-25, 16-14.

Marietta's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Addie Graham, who had ten digs, two blocks, and two aces. Those two blocks gave Graham a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ava Prim, who had nine digs and two aces.

They weren't the only good servers: Marietta was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 12 aces in three consecutive contests.

Despite the defeat, Eastern saw an underclassman step up: freshman Emeri Lloyd had 20 digs and two assists. Lloyd is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last 12 games she's played.

Marietta's record now sits at 9-3. As for Eastern, their loss ended a six-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-4.

Marietta wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 2-0 defeat against Cabell Midland on the 1st. As for Eastern, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against Belpre on the 2nd.
