Baseball Game Preview: Putnam Kingsmen vs. McDaniel Mountain Lions

The Putnam Kingsmen will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the McDaniel Mountain Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. McDaniel took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Putnam, who comes in off a win.

Putnam is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Redmond. Putnam walked away with a 4-1 victory over Redmond on Friday. The game was the first time the Kingsmen have beaten the Panthers on their field since March 26, 2018.

Nolan Edwards and Ian Pollard made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Edwards pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Meanwhile, Pollard pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Edwards scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Pollard scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Calvin Booth, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, McDaniel came up short against Bend on Thursday, falling 11-2. The loss put an end to the Mountain Lions' undefeated start to the season.

Everything went Putnam's way against McDaniel when the teams last played back in March of 2016, as Putnam made off with a 12-1 win. Will Putnam repeat their success, or does McDaniel has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
