Basketball Recap: Rakin Showki's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sammamish over Lake Washington

Sammamish lost against Lake Washington back in January of 2020 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Sammamish RedHawks fell to the Lake Washington Kangaroos 82-78. While losing is never fun, the RedHawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while the Kangaroos are ranked 34th).

Sammamish lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Rakin Showki, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 assists. The contest was Showki's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Barry Morrissette, who went 7 of 9 en route to 19 points along with five rebounds and four blocks.

This is the second loss in a row for Sammamish and nudges their season record down to 8-7. As for Lake Washington, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-3.

Sammamish will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Bothell at 7:15 p.m. As for Lake Washington, they will square off against Eastlake at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Eastlake has won four straight at home, while Lake Washington won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
