Football Recap: Wilburton Diggers vs. Antlers Bearcats
Wilburton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 17th straight loss dating back to last season. They took a 28-18 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Antlers Bearcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Diggers of the 26-21 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2023.
Despite the loss, Wilburton still got an impressive performance from Jason Wilkett, who rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown. Wilkett also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing two fumbles and making 22 total tackles.
Wilburton wouldn't let Antlers keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force six fumbles. Wilkett led the group effort, picking up two of those forced fumbles all by himself.
Chandler Joslin was his usual excellent self, rushing for 142 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry for Antlers. The dominant performance gave Joslin a new career-high in rushing yards.
Wilburton's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Antlers, with the win, they broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wilburton will take on Vian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Vian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past seven matches -- so hopefully Wilburton likes a good challenge. As for Antlers, they will face off against Henryetta at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Antlers is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home dating back to last season.
