Softball Recap: Shelby Takes a Loss

Shelby was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 15-5 to the Bessemer City Yellow Jackets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Yellow Jackets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 21-9 last Tuesday.

Payton Barkley made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Julianna Vaughan, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Shelby's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Bessemer City, their win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-1.

Looking ahead, Shelby will welcome Cherryville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cherryville will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for Bessemer City, they will take on East Gaston at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. East Gaston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.4 runs per game this season.
