Basketball Recap: Benjamin Makelela Key Part of a Team Effort in Eagles Win

While Capistrano Valley Christian didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on the Troy Warriors with a sharp 66-45 victory on Wednesday. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Warriors are ranked 656th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Capistrano Valley Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Benjamin Makelela out in front who posted eight points in addition to eight boards and six assists. What's more, Makelela also racked up four steals, the most he's had since back in January. Another player making a difference was Shaunt Kechejian, who went 6 of 9 en route to 17 points.

The victory made it two in a row for Capistrano Valley Christian and bumps their season record up to 7-2. As for Troy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.

Capistrano Valley Christian will be playing in front of their home fans against Mission Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Capistrano Valley Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.9 points per game this season. As for Troy, they will take on Birmingham in a tournament on Friday.
