Football Game Preview: West Mesa Mustangs vs. Santa Fe Demons

West Mesa is a perfect 3-0 against Santa Fe since August of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Demons at 7:00 p.m. West Mesa is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.

On Thursday, West Mesa came up short against Eldorado and fell 31-18. The Mustangs were down 28-6 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite their defeat, West Mesa saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Marcos Ochoa, who picked up 88 receiving yards and three scores, was perhaps the best of all. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 69 yards. Another passer making a difference was Jericho Brody, who threw for 163 yards and three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Santa Fe's offense. They were beaten by La Cueva 55-0 on Saturday. The Demons haven't had much luck with the Bears recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Santa Fe now has a losing record of 4-5. As for West Mesa, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.

Everything came up roses for West Mesa against Santa Fe in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 37-0 win. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Demons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
