Softball Game Preview: Springfield Blue Devils vs. Perrysburg Yellow Jackets

Springfield has won three straight games at home, while Perrysburg has won three straight on the road dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Thursday. The Blue Devils will welcome the Yellow Jackets at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Springfield had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Napoleon on Wednesday. The Blue Devils blew past the Wildcats 14-2. The victory continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won nine in a row.

Meanwhile, Perrysburg faced Anthony Wayne in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Generals. Perrysburg's win was all the more impressive since the Generals were averaging only 1.6 runs allowed on the season.

Maddie Von Sacken spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hayley Griggs was incredible, firing off two home runs, four RBI, and one stolen base while going 3-for-3. Yesenia You was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4.

Griggs wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Perrysburg lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Springfield's victory bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Perrysburg, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.
