Recap: Salem Wildcats vs. Freeburg Midgets
The Salem Wildcats fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Freeburg Midgets on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Midgets 70-64. Salem has not had much luck with Freeburg recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the loss, Salem still got an impressive performance from Connor Tennyson, who dropped a double-double on 37 points and 15 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Tennyson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Gavin Zimmermann, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Cole Stuart continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Freeburg, scoring 25 points along with five assists. Kaleb Johnston was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds.
Salem has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-19 record this season. As for Freeburg, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-10.
Salem and Centralia will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Centralia is coming into the matchup with 12 straight wins at home, so Salem is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum. As for Freeburg, they and Pinckneyville will face off at 3:15 p.m. on February 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Freeburg is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 55.8 points per game this season.
