Volleyball Recap: Pender Pendragons vs. Clarkson/Leigh Patriots

Pender was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Clarkson/Leigh Patriots. The Pendragons were not able to make up for their defeat to the Patriots from their previous meeting back in September of 2024.

Pender wouldn't go down easily and took Clarkson/Leigh into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking 11-point loss. The final score came out to 25-19, 25-17, 22-25, 15-25, 15-4.

Despite the loss, Pender saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Mattilyn Trimble had 23 digs and three assists. Those 23 digs set a new season-high mark for Trimble.

Clarkson/Leigh can attribute much of their success to Reese Wietfeld, who had 18 assists and nine digs. Those 18 assists gave Wietfeld a new career-high. Graicee Sortino also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Pender's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Clarkson/Leigh, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pender will welcome Wakefield at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Clarkson/Leigh, they will host Humphrey-Lindsay on Thursday.
