Baseball Recap: Lawrenceburg Comes Up Short

Lawrenceburg dropped their record down to 15-8 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the East Central Trojans by a score of 2-1. The Tigers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Trojans from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Ollie Safaviyan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Landon Cornett made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Ryan Richard also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

As for East Central, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games.

On East Central's side, they saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Noah Long, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Coming up, Lawrenceburg will head out on the road to face off against Rushville at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for East Central, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Columbus East at 6:00 p.m. The timing is sure in the Trojans' favor as the squad sits on six straight wins at home while the Olympians have been banged up by nine consecutive losses on the road.
