Game recap: Bennett High School Football Team defeats Kent Denver

BENNETT, Colo. - Bennett (Colo.) saw its 14-point lead dwindle to seven, but still managed to hang on and beat Kent Denver (Englewood, Colo.) 14-7 on Saturday.

After taking the lead on a kick return touchdown by Alejandro Garcia in the second quarter, the Tigers were up 7-0 at the half.

Bennett expanded its lead to 14 points entering the fourth quarter. BHS scored once in the quarter on a touchdown catch by Tanner Wineland.

The loss snapped Kent Denver's six-game winning streak.

Kent Denver's lone touchdown came on a 12-yard pass from Joey Matarazzo to Trevon Hamlet in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers came into the game allowing 8.6 points per game. The seven points that the Sun Devils ended with were well below their average of 36.1 coming into the game.



The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which Kent Denver took, 35-14.

The defeat comes as a step back for Kent Denver, which notched a 48-0 victory over Sheridan in its previous outing.

Bennett (6-2) will play a 2A Colorado game against Sheridan next week, while Kent Denver (6-2) will take on Manual also in a 2A Colorado game.
