Recap: Rancho Rams vs. Canyon Springs Pioneers

The Rancho Rams entered their tilt with the Canyon Springs Pioneers with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. Rancho strolled past Canyon Springs with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 65-47. For Rancho, this counts as revenge for the 54-49 loss Canyon Springs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.

R'Zha Whittle continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 18 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Childress, who scored 16 points along with four steals.

When it comes to explaining why Canyon Springs lost, one person who can't be blamed is Melvin Reece. Despite the final result, he scored five points along with 42 rebounds and five steals. Another player making a difference was Ma'Aqwaviuos Macklin, who scored six points along with three blocks and two steals.

Rancho is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. As for Canyon Springs, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost ten of their last 13 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season.

Rancho won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Sierra Vista at 1:30 p.m. on January 20th. Sierra Vista has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 793 points over their last 11 matchups. As for Canyon Springs, they will be playing at home against Cimarron-Memorial at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Cimarron-Memorial focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Friday.
