Softball Game Preview: Schuylkill Haven Hurricanes vs. Kutztown Cougars

Schuylkill Haven hasn't had much luck against Kutztown recently, but that could start to change on Monday. Schuylkill Haven will challenge Kutztown at 4:15 p.m. Schuylkill Haven will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.

Schuylkill Haven took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Tri-Valley, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Schuylkill Haven had just enough and edged out Tri-Valley 6-5.

Gracelyn Line spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up seven Ks. Those seven strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ally Becker, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Joie Schoffstall, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Kutztown took on Schuylkill Valley on Tuesday. Kutztown never let Schuylkill Valley get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Schuylkill Haven's record is now 4-0. As for Kutztown, their record now sits at 3-1.

Schuylkill Haven couldn't quite get it done against Kutztown in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 8-5. Can Schuylkill Haven avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
