Football Recap: Long Reach Lightning vs. Glenelg Gladiators
Long Reach had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped down to 3-5 to make it four. They were outmatched by the Glenelg Gladiators and fell 40-3. If the Lightning were looking for revenge after losing 21-0 to the Gladiators when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for Glenelg, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-3. The result was nothing new for the Gladiators, who have now won four contests by 23 points or more so far this season.
Glenelg's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jailen Johnson, who rushed for 101 yards and a pair of TDs on only eight carries. Johnson's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 101 rushing yards. Dwane Morgan helped out on the ground, rushing for 96 yards and a rushing touchdown.
Coming up, Long Reach will square off against Guilford Park at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Glenelg, they will challenge Atholton at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
