Basketball Recap: Middle Park Beats Moffat County for Their Fifth Straight Win

Middle Park came tearing into Friday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Moffat County Bulldogs by a score of 71-64. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 68th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 229th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Middle Park had a senior duo take command as Vinny Scaturro dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds and Marqes Pasillas almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Scaturro has scored all season. Joey Gagnon was another key player, putting up 15 points.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jr Welch, who posted 19 points and seven boards. Welch also posted a block, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Trayson Carlson, who went 6 of 11 en route to 14 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Middle Park pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points per game. As for Moffat County, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.

Middle Park will challenge Fort Lupton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Moffat County has already played their next game, a 66-38 win against Rifle on the 18th.
