Basketball Recap: Edinburg North Piles Up the Points Against Rio Grande City

There's no place like home for Edinburg North, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They blew past the Rio Grande City Rattlers 68-41 on Friday. The Cougars have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Rattlers, too.

Edinburg North's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Osmar Alanis led the charge by going 9 for 14 on his way to 19 points. That's the most points Alanis has posted since back in November. Raul Palacios was another key player, going 6 of 9 on his way to 17 points.

The victory snapped Edinburg North's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 15-11 record. As for Rio Grande City, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Edinburg North Cougars take on the Harlingen Cardinals at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Harlingen's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine matches. As for Rio Grande City, they will square off against Mission at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
