Basketball Recap: Nantahala Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Nantahala, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They walked away with a 79-66 win over the Shining Rock Classical Academy Falcons on Thursday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 76-44 back in November of 2024.

Despite the loss, Shining Rock Classical Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Hudson Moody posted 32 points. With that strong performance, Moody is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Joey Messer was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Nantahala's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-7. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 80.0 points per game. As for Shining Rock Classical Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

Nantahala and Hayesville will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Hayesville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Nantahala likes a good challenge. As for Shining Rock Classical Academy, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Temple Baptist at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Temple Baptist will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Shining Rock Classical Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
