Softball Recap: Liberty Snaps Six-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Liberty had lost six games on the road dating back to last season, but after bumping their record up to 10-12 on Wednesday that streak is in the rearview. They came out on top against the Stockdale Mustangs by a score of 12-7. This was payback for the Patriots, who suffered a 5-4 loss the last time these two teams met.

The team relied heavily on Kaitlyn DeBondt, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

As for Stockdale, they moved to 18-6 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for they, who until this match were averaging 2.71 runs allowed.

On Stockdale's side, Nevaeh Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and eight unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 13 Ks.

On the hitting side, Melanie Haworth led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Aamya Harrison, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Stockdale beat Liberty by a score of 10-0 on Friday.
