Hudson Phelps was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Regent Prep is 6-2 when Phelps posts two or more runs, but 4-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Cai Brookover, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Summit Christian Academy waltzed into their matchup on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Everything went their way against the Golden Eagles as they made off with a 10-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Chase Cooper spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Garett Converse was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Bode Ridley was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Summit Christian Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mounds only managed four.
Regent Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Summit Christian Academy, their win bumped their record up to 18-7.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Regent Prep has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .504. However, it's not like Summit Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .478. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
