Baseball Recap: Holy Name Comes Up Short

The matchup between Holy Name and Elyria Catholic on Friday hardly resembled the 3-1 effort from their previous meeting. The Green Wave fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 13-11. The Green Wave were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Panthers earlier this season, when they won 3-1.

Nick Nemeth made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Holy Name: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Danny Reichel, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Holy Name's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 3-5. As for Elyria Catholic, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2.

Holy Name didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-10 defeat against Shaker Heights on the 18th. As for Elyria Catholic, they have also already played their next matchup, a 5-2 victory against Bay on the 18th.
