Volleyball Recap: Leander Find Success

Leander posted their closest victory since October 8, 2024 on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Grapevine Mustangs. For the Lions, this counts as revenge for the 2-0 victory the Mustangs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2019.

Among those leading the charge was Sierra Lumbreras, who had six digs and five aces. Those five aces gave her a new career-high. Troy Acevedo also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

They weren't the only good server: Leander was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 14 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least eight aces in four consecutive games.

Leander's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Grapevine, the defeat snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 6-2 record.

Leander didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-1 loss against Vandegrift on the 16th. As for Grapevine, they have also already played their next match, a 2-0 victory against St. Michael's on the 16th.
