Baseball Game Preview: Clayton Comets vs. Southeast Raleigh Bulldogs

Clayton has gone a perfect 10-0 against Southeast Raleigh recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Comets will challenge the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Clayton has three straight victories, Southeast Raleigh has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Clayton's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They came out on top against Cleveland by a score of 5-0.

Jennings Dunlap was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Landon Evans was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February. Tyler Long was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Clayton lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Southeast Raleigh's offense. They lost 19-0 to Corinth Holders on Friday.

Clayton's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Southeast Raleigh, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11.

Clayton took their win against Southeast Raleigh in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 17-0 score. Will the Comets repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
